Call For Plays
Bite-Size History Plays for All
The BTC is issuing a Call for Plays to playwrights and budding
playwrights to write short vignettes on a New Westminster history theme of their
choice. A vignette is a play that is about 10 minutes long, and is easy to produce
(simple staging and not too many characters). See the example vignette provided, curtesy of local author
and playwrite, Brian Cox.
If you are not sure of any aspect,
don't hesitate to ask - we love talking about theatre!
The Process
The process is simple. Once you have your script ready, you can email it to us as
an attachment (be sure to include your name and contact information. You can
also print the application form
and send it to us by mail.
You can also drop your play off in person at the Arts Council's office in Queen's
Park.
Or why don't you come to one of our drop-in meetings on Thursday evenings at the
Heritage Grill on Columbia Street and bring your play along.
Historical Criteria
• The BTC would like to give vignette writers as much flexibility as possible.
• If a vignette is about an actual historical person or persons, then the vignette
must use accurate historical facts and must not be slanderous.
• If the vignette is fictitious, then it must still be historically accurate in
terms of dress, customs of the day and physical location.
